Sector Brief:
The leisure boating industry along with its sub-sectors i.e. Boat manufacturing, boat servicing, marinas, on-water Infrastructure, Boat Dealership, Ancillary Services, Water Tourism Safety and Rescue services, offer great opportunities for growth and enhanced employment. Boating industry has a huge growth potential.
Background:
Despite the absence of marinas to park; yachts are fast gaining popularity among high net worth individuals. Boats ranging from Rs.2 million to Rs.20 million are the new symbol of luxury like foreign cars and executive jets. Last year, the Indian industry did a sale of about Rs.500 million and is estimated to grow this year to approx. Rs. 1.5 Billion In the next five years, the leisure boating industry will be worth Rs.40 billion in India. Private sector companies are also trying to develop the leisure boating industry. This shows that there is an increase in the number of business opportunities in this sector.
India is among the top GDP growth economies of the world with 12 million millionaires who can spur the demand of high-end luxury services like Leisure boating, and create huge avenues for prosperity.
India has some of the foremost backcountry watercourses, extending up to 16,000 km. sailing has an edge over other water sports, as not much skill is required to sail a boat and can be accessed at a very reasonable price - a most thrilling sport for the entire family. The golden sandy beaches along the coastline of India and the lakes in the northern region offer excellent facilities for water sports. Kovalam in Kerala, and Goa offer sailing adventures throughout the year. There are numerous beach resorts and water sports clubs in Goa that offers training in all kinds of water sports.
Inland Water Transport has a huge tourism potential. Kerala, West Bengal, North Eastern States, Uttaranchal are trying to promote this mode of transport for boosting eco-tourism, nature tourism and adventure tourism. Public Private Partnership’s model is most suitable for tourism using Inland Waterways Transport/boating.
Objectives:
FICCI's main objective is to get an industry status by researching the sector & presenting it to the various stakeholders. To promote, encourage and protect the interests of the members who consist of individuals, firms and companies engaged in the marine industry, ship and boat building industry or any trade associated with or allied to that industry & to promote the boating industry through events and allied activities.
Past Event:
FICCI India Boating Forum organized an industry interaction conference “Indian Boating Industry - The Way Forward” alongside the Mumbai boat show in 2009, which brought together international and national marine experts along with decision makers from government to deliberate and find solutions on issues ailing the leisure boating sector.
