Meeting with Toronto Stock Exchange Delegation
Interactive Meeting on Raising Capital through Toronto Stock Exchange in Mumbai
Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry‘s Western Regional Council (FICCI-WRC) is hosting a business delegation from Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) to interact with Indian companies interested in tapping into foreign capital market as per following schedule:
- Date: October 26, 2010
- Time: 11.00 am – 01.00 pm
- Venue: Hotel Taj President, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai
The Canadian capital markets offer substantial opportunities for Indian companies interested in raising capital in overseas markets such as Canada. Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) is Canada’s premier exchange and lists approximately 1,541 large issuers with a market capitalization of $1.26 trillion.
Canada is internationally known for its abundance of natural resources. Not surprisingly, Canadian capital markets are particularly attractive to the Mining, Oil & Gas and Clean Technology sectors, which make TSX world's premier and number one exchange in these sectors. In addition to Canada's top tier status in the said sectors, the TSX along with TSXV offer ample opportunities for capital formation and trading liquidity for companies operating in several other key industry sectors.
The principal advantages of listing on the TSX are the overall value, which a company receives in terms of Market Leadership, Low Cost of Listing, Supportive Financial Network & Legal Environment, Cross Border Capabilities, Industry Support and Access to Capital. Some of the larger Indian companies have already taken advantage of the opportunities available in the Canadian market in recent past. Many of these entries have been by way of takeover of TSX-listed companies by Indian investors such as Aditya Birla Group, Essar Steel, GMR Group, Tata Steel etc.
The objective of organising this interactive meet is to:
- Introduce the TSX to the Indian companies looking to raise capital abroad
- Create awareness about the TSX and showcase some of the key areas that they add value to more than any other exchange in the world
- Discuss the merits of listing in Canada versus other jurisdictions
- Talk about specific opportunities and provide case studies of foreign listings in Canada
The attendees of the meeting will benefit from an insightful overview of the Canadian market and what financing opportunities it has to offer to Indian companies through various presentations and interactive sessions, which will be presented by senior representatives from Toronto Stock Exchange, Canaccord Genuity, the largest independent investment bank in Canada and Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, the largest law firm in Canada.
The participation is by Invitation only.

Training Programme on Strategic Trade Regulations and Practices for Indian Hi-Tech Industry
The global dual-use market is currently estimated to be between US$ 800 billion and US $ 1 trillion and growing at 5% annually. Participation in this market is highly lucrative but it also requires companies to be aware of and institute credible measures to demonstrate capacity for robust compliance with relevant national and international export control regulations and best practices. This is because most of the products, technologies and services employed in these specialized sectors also have military uses, necessitating strict licensing requirements for their acquisition, manufacture and trade.
A staggering array of opportunities await Indian Companies in Advanced Technology Sectors - civil nuclear and nuclear dual-use areas; chemical, pharmaceutical, bio-technology, and bio-informatics sectors; and manufacturing and trade in advanced technologies in the fields of conventional munitions, aerospace, electronics, and material sciences. For instance, with the successful passage of the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement, Indian companies now can forge partnering relationships with their counterparts from advanced economies to participate in the Indian civilian nuclear market (valued at $30 billion by 2030) and also compete to supply the nuclear reactor-building programs globally.
To prepare the Indian industry for full scale participation in this growing hi-tech market, FICCI has partnered with the Center for International Trade & Security (CITS), University of Georgia, USA – one of the world’s leading institutions specializing in strategic trade regulations. FICCI and CITS, with the support of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Government of India and the US Department of Energy, will organize a training programme on July 20-21, 2010 at Hotel Taj Presidency in Mumbai for the CEOs, CIOs, and business development and compliance managers of India’s hi-tech industry.
The upcoming programme in Mumbai will have participation of senior government officials and will be guided by experts from India and the United States who have vast international exposure in the formulation and implementation of strategic trade control regulations.
This practitioner-oriented programme will focus on the following topics:
- Understanding global standards of strategic trade management and export control compliance
- Developing mechanisms to safeguard dual-use technologies and prevent their diversion to unauthorized end-users or proliferators
- Establishing robust internal compliance programs in public or private entities
- Understanding strategic trade control requirements of India’s key trading partners (United States, Japan, China, European Union) as well as practical aspects of India’s current and proposed strategic trade control regulations.
This programme is of significant practical value to all organizations who intend to engage in high technology trade and understand the opportunities and responsibilities in the hi-tech and dual use sectors.

India ranks sixth in the production of citrus fruit in the world. It occupies third position after mango and banana in the production of fruits in India. Citrus fruits originated in the tropical and sub tropical regions of South East Asia, particularly India and China. North East India is the native place of many citrus species. It is of particular interest because of its high content of vitamin C and refreshing juice. Of the various types of citrus fruits grown in India, orange (mandarin or santra), sweet orange (mosambi, malta or satgudi) and lime/lemon (limbu or nimbu) are of commercial importance. The beneficial lemon (Citrus limon) originally native to Asia, is regularly used for culinary and non-culinary purposes throughout the world – primarily for its juice, though the pulp and rind (zest) are also used, mainly in cooking and baking. This inexpensive and easily available citrus fruit popular for its culinary uses, also has properties that makes it effective in natural health and holistic healing methods.
